Health care charge likely

IF GOVERNMENT DECIDES to move forward with any plans for Barbadians to contribute to the country’s health care bill, then it must first reduce income tax.

Former shadow minister of health William Duguid has contended that he does not believe Barbados is ready for such a transition.

Speaking on Thursday night following a Barbados Labour Party meeting at the Foundation School, Church Hill, Christ Church, he said judging from recent public meetings it seems as if Government was moving towards deducting money from the salaries of employees and employers to help foot the island’s staggering health bill.

He said at a meeting which he attended, personnel from the National Insurance Scheme had made a presentation showing how the money would be deducted. (RB)
