HUNDREDS OF GUNS were destroyed yesterday as police called on Barbadians to give up the gunmen in their midst.
Acting Superintendent Ian Branch, who supervised the destruction of the weapons, urged the public to call in the police whether or not they knew if the person’s firearm was illegal.
His instructions came as social media postings riddled with armed young men and women continued to make the rounds and against rumours of violence at one of the major Crop Over events as payback for the shooting death of a Brittons Hill, St Michael youth earlier this month.
“We will go after any information we have with people who have illegal firearms. I take this opportunity to appeal to any person out there who knows of those who have illegal firearms – whether or not you know if the firearms are illegal – we would welcome that information to go after those people. We will not stop going after those people with illegal firearms,” Branch promised. (AC)
