SOME INSURANCE COMPANIES across the island are maintaining that despite homeowners’ policies covering several types of losses, damage done to properties eligible for claims has to be as a result of natural acts of God.
And, unfortunately for many homeowners in the Scotland District, land slippage may not be considered an act of God.
The SUNDAY SUN made several calls to insurance companies to ascertain what exactly qualified a homeowner to make a claim in relation to their homes.
Vice president of Underwriting at Sagicor General, Wanda Mayers, in making reference to the Gambles, whose case was highlighted recently in the SUNDAY SUN, said the peril referred to in the standard homeowners policy was subsidence or landslip, and the question for any company would be whether that peril caused the loss that would have occurred.Â
