SANDALS BARBADOS has broken ground for a 222-room expansion that will bring Jamaican hotel magnate Butch Stewart’s total investment in the Christ Church luxury hotel property to US$245 million.

Senior project manager of Sandals Resorts International Terence Des Vignes said the expansion was the single largest investment and project by Sandals to date.

He was speaking during a ground-breaking ceremony at the 14-acre Dover site.

Des Vignes said the project will be “100 per cent built by Barbadian contractors and tradesmen” and at its peak, will employ 1 700 Barbadians, 1 200 of whom will be employed directly on the site. (GC)
