UNDER PRESSURE because of a severe shortage of garbage trucks, the Sanitation Service Authority (SSA)
is once again depending on loading trucks and skid steer loaders (Bobcats) from the Ministry of Transport and Works to help in collecting garbage.
In addition, because of the backup of garbage on the streets, sanitation workers were busy at the weekend trying to collect refuse which has been piling up in several communities.
Last week householders as well as businesses complained about the non-collection of garbage which has been going on for several weeks.
The SSA is faced with a critical situation where several of its trucks are in the workshop and this was hampering its collection since only nine trucks were said to be available to service the entire island. (MB)
