Find solution to litter problem

AFTER SPENDING some time in Barbados, I enjoyed many things, but one thing that I didn’t like was the litter found across the island.

The roadsides, towns and villages are very untidy. I have been told that there is division of the former Barbados Tourism Authority that is in charge of product development.

I would suggest that they make keeping the island clean a priority. I rarely saw litter bins in the towns and by the beaches, and having more of them would be a good start.

Also, fining people for littering would be a good deterrent. I saw in the newspaper that people caught dumping illegally were being forced to clean up the dump site. Although this is some level of punishment, if a massive fine is also imposed it would be much more effective.

I realise that Barbados is not my country and I can’t tell you what to do, but foreigners do notice the litter and it is a problem that needs to be addressed.
