The Caribbean region and CARICOM are not dead.
The assertion was made by the Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency (CDEMA) executive director Ronald Jackson.
He was speaking during a press conference at Sea Breeze Hotel, Maxwell, Christ Church yesterday, where the Ocean Hotels Group donated $24 000 to the relief efforts.
“It is unfortunate that it takes these kinds of events for us to visibly see that we are in fact a close knit region, working together and supporting each other. What I would like to see is that we leverage this outpouring of regional solidarity and build on this.
“From time to time, we should critique what we have done because that is the only way we would be able to continue to keep the bar high and move to different heights. But we should not underestimate what we have done as a people, as a Caribbean and as governments in the region,” he said.
