THE BARBADOS UNION of Teachers (BUT) has sought legal advice in response to a letter from the Ministry of Education circulating to schools requesting that teachers’ salaries be reduced for attending two meetings recently.
This was revealed by BUT president Pedro Shepherd as he responded to the implications of the letter which singled out the meetings held on April 29 and May 4 during school hours.
Shepherd was speaking at a press briefing this afternoon at BUT Headquarters, Merry Hill, St Michael.
He said the BUT would take the matter of salary deduction of the teachers for May as far as necessary.
The letter, dated May 6, was signed by acting permanent secretary June Chandler for the permanent secretary. (JS)
