COME AND PLAY to qualify for selection!

That’s the message from chairman of the West Indies’ selectors, Clive Lloyd, to out-of-favour former captains Darren Sammy, Chris Gayle and Dwayne Bravo, who were omitted from the 14-man regional squad to oppose Australia and South Africa in the first four matches of a Tri-Nation One-Day International series starting in Guyana on June 3.

In an interview with SUNSPORT, Lloyd said the selectors were in a predicament, having to abide by the rules of the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) while still hoping to select the best available team.

“Once they play in the competition, fine. The point is they are still top-class cricketers and they should come and play in the tournaments because that is the board’s rule,” Lloyd said.
