Banking on batting

GIVING YOUNG batsmen the opportunity to bat for long periods is critical to their development and should be encouraged by cricket coaches.

This, according to former Barbados and West Indies fast bowler Ezra Moseley, is just as important as winning cricket matches.

Moseley made the remark after The St Michael School amassed 543 for nine while batting for the first two days of their first series Barbados Cricket Association’s (BCA) Schools Division match against Deighton Griffith at Kingsland, which ends tomorrow.

By prolonging their innings instead of making a declaration, right-handed No.3 batsman Nyeem Young wrote his name in the record books with the highest score by a schoolboy in BCA competitions when he made a career-best 299.
