THE NURSING AUXILIARY who was captured on video allegedly beating an 84-year-old patient of a nursing home was charged by police last night.

Ariel King, of Lynches, St Philip, is expected to appear at the St Matthias Magistrates’ Court this morning to answer the charge, which was not made public up to press time.

The video, which was recorded on a cellphone, went viral when it was released on social media on Monday, evoking anger as well as concern from many Barbadians.

Shot by an employee of the Roseville Nursing Home in Durants, Christ Church, it showed a frail Jasmine Hall, who suffers with dementia, sitting on the floor being hit with a slipper, with a book on top her head and being kicked by King, as she cried out: “Don’t hit me! Don’t hit me!” (MB)

Note: Late last night, a police statement listed the charge as unlawful assault.
