OPPOSITION MEMBER OF PARLIAMENT for St James North, Edmund Hinkson has called on Minister of Education Ronald Jones to resign.
At yesterday’s sitting of the House, Hinkson suggested Prime Minister Freundel Stuart should remove the Education Minister from the post he has held for eight and a half years if Jones did not take the first step and submit a letter of resignation to the Prime Minister.
Hinkson accused the minister of “total disrespect and contempt” for Parliament, complaining that Jones failed to honour a pledge he made to the House.
The Opposition shadow minister for education told the House the Minister of Education had made two promises to send documents related to his ministry’s education policy to the Opposition to assist them in their contribution to relevant debates and to date had not honoured the commitment.
Hinkson said: “If honourable members of this parliament including particularly those in Cabinet feel that they can disrespect this Parliament, say anything on the floor of this parliament that they have no obligation or commitment to carry out what they said, we have reached a sad day in this 50th anniversary of political Independence.”
He added: “I would hope that the Right Honourable Prime Minister would condemn his minister for that.” (GC)
