DESPITE A DROP in numbers, hundreds of workers came out under overcast skies to march in the annual Barbados Workers’ Union (BWU) May Day parade yesterday.
BWU general secretary Toni Moore, in her address, said that the essence of May Day was to send hope to all the workers on the island, despite the decline in attendance this year.
“We would naturally like to see a lot more of our workers coming out and being actively involved in the parade, but we are not daunted by it because it suggests that we have work to do,” she said.
“The message of the union is a message that is going to be delivered whether we have ten or tens of thousands. The message of brotherhood, love, unity and the message of hope has to be delivered. . .” (RA)
