EDUCATION OFFICIALS have not received the final report on the recent incident involving a teacher and a student at Ellerslie Secondary School, says Minister of Education Ronald Jones.

“We received a report from the principal, [but] we have to receive a report from the board [of management] that has carried out further investigations. Once that report is received we will be able to act on the concerns or recommendations within that report.

“There’s a police investigation going on and we have no control over that one. We can only have control over the school’s investigation,” Jones said yesterday afternoon at a Press conference.

Since the incident in which there were allegations of a physical altercation, the teacher has been on extended sick leave and the 14-year-old student was suspended.

Jones reiterated that there was a process to be followed dictated by the Education Act and Regulations, in which were embedded “suspension and expulsion . . .”. (GBM)
