Lasonta Katrina Gill, 26, has been remanded in connection with the death of her six-year-old son, Jahan King, and so has her boyfriend Dwayne Alistair Marshall, 35.

Moments ago prosecutor Sergeant Janice Ifill objected to bail for the pair citing the serious nature of the manslaughter charge, the mood of society and the fact that Marshall also had previous convictions.

Gill and Marshall of Belfield, Jackson, St Michael were remanded until May 23 after appearing before Magistrate Kristie Cuffy-Sargeant in Criminal Court No. 2 of the District “A” Magistrates’ Courts. The pair was represented by attorney Samuel Legay.

He pleaded with the court not to allow the mood of society to play a part in whether or not the two were granted bail, stating that the matter should be dealt with fairly.

A few people were in the courtyard as the partners made their appearances.

Among them were Jahan’s two grandmothers Ena Browne (right) and Margaret Gill. The women sat heads down in the courtroom as the charge was read to Gill and Marshall who were not required to plead at this stage to the indictable matter.

Jahan, a pupil of Lawrence T. Gay Primary School who resided at the same address, died on June 29, 2015 after being transported to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital. Post mortem results attributed death to blunt trauma to the abdomen and chest. (AC)
