A GOVERNMENT MINISTER wants to see public service vehicle (PSV) owners feel the pinch for the bad practices of the drivers they hire.
Minister of Industry and Commerce, Donville Inniss, said it was shameful how some PSV personnel who had numerous convictions for road traffic violations were still driving and owners were not punished for continuously hiring them.
The St James South MP was contributing to debate in the House of Assembly Tuesday on a resolution for Government to acquire land in order to facilitate the completion of the Warrens Traffic Improvement Project.
“Engaging the PSV operators is a move in the right direction, but the number of drivers allowed to work even after numerous convictions . . . that must be looked at. Why are the owners not also dealt with?” Inniss asked. “The owners don’t seem to care too much. The focus needs to shift to them.” (BA)
