SOPHIA HOLDER and Mark Small “met” back in 1994.Small, an emergency medical technician (EMT) with the Ambulance Service, remembers being off-duty on June 7 that year when a call came in about a serious accident in Jackson, St Michael.
The EMT for 20-plus years recalled that he and his sister-in-law Cheryl, who were just passing through the office, responded to the call as there were no crews present.
Holder, the lone passenger injured in that accident, lost her right arm as a result.
Today, both Small and Holder work together at the service, and while she has no recollection of the man who came to her rescue that day, she is forever grateful for his efforts.
The memory of that accident is more vivid for Small, who said he was happy to see how far Holder had come since then.
