Disability is not inability

DIABETES ROBBED Dalton Burrowes of his eyesight and toes, but not of his vitality, will to survive and strength to fend for himself.

The mostly self-sufficient man cooks, washes and takes walks around his neighbourhood just as any sighted person would.

The sad but ultimately triumphant story of his health began when he started to realise he had difficulty reading, signing forms and driving.

“I used to read a paper every day until I realise I couldn’t pick up the words on a night. One night I went to ICBL and had to sign the book and the man ask me what happening. I had start on one line and end up two lines down,” he said. (CA)
