DIVISION ONE QUEENS CO Williams Rangers made a poor start to the 2016 netball league season by tumbling to an upset loss to Guardian General Pride of Villa in the opening match last night at the Netball Stadium.

With the flashy Sabreena Smith – who formerly played for Rangers – giving Villa lots of innovation in midcourt, the Britton Hill unit maintained a tight hold on the game to move from 12-12 and 23-23 in the first two quarters to advance to 35-31 and then a finish of 44-39.

Captain Latonia Blackman was almost flawless at goal shooter  in sinking 30 goals from 32 attempts for Villa while her goal attack sister Nadia added 14 from 23.

Rangers’ goal attack Nikita Payne scored a game high 32 goals from 37 attempts, with Shaquillia Davis scoring seven of 10. (KB)
