A CLOSE TO $3 MILLION investment in Chickmont Foods Limited’s processing plants and its farms will see the company expand its broiler capacity as well as become more energy efficient.

A new state-of-the-art 20 000 square foot pen that can house 30 000 birds will be completed and opened at the end of next month, said executive director Dominic DeFreitas.

The facility, which cost $800 000 to construct over six months, will be located at Chickmont’s Ridge Road, Christ Church farm that was destroyed by fire in August 2014.

DeFreitas said the new pen was expected to be the largest single-house chicken farm in Barbados and would feature brand new state-of-the-art equipment that would automatically weigh feed and bird in-house as part of the farm production techniques. (LK)
