DON’T COUNT THEM out just yet.
Hilton Barbados Warriors are very much alive in the playoff race, closing out Tuesday’s crucial win on a 12-3 run without Jamar Headley to upend Station Hill Cavaliers 79-73 in the Co-operators General Insurance Basketball Premier League at the Wildey Gym.
The result kept Warriors within a half-game of St John’s for the fourth and final playoff spot with four games left after Sonics remained in fourth via an earlier two-point win over Tridents.
But Warriors threatened to fall further behind, with their leading scorer and rebounder Headley fouling out at the three-minute mark in the fourth quarter.
And the situation looked even more ominous just moments later when Cavs guard Darren Hunte put Station Hill ahead 72-67 with less than two minutes remaining.
Yet Warriors refused to give up on the contest, and their postseason hopes, having frantically finished the contest by scoring 12 of the game’s final 13 points in one valiant last-ditch rally.
