THE MOVEMENT TOWARDS plasma gasification is hanging in the balance following a decision by a major global developer of the technology to abandon a billion-dollar plant in which it had invested in England.
Yesterday Waste Management World, the official magazine of the International Solid Waste Management Association, reported that Air Products, the company on which Cahill is said to be modelling its plan for a local plasma gasification plant, is walking away from two troubled waste-to-energy facilities it was constructing.
The magazine said the company took the decision because of technical difficulties it faced in making the technology work as expected.
The two 50-mega-watt plasma gasification plants are located at Teesside, North East England. (GE)
