Tropical Storm Dorian continues its progression towards the Barbados. At 8 p.m. Dorian was centred near 11.6N 54.8W or about 335 miles (540 km) east-southeast of Barbados.

Maximum sustained winds are near 50 mph (85km/h), with tropical-storm-force winds extending outward up to 35 miles (55 km) from the centre. The minimum central pressure is 1003 mb (29.62 inches).

The system continues to move towards the west at 14 mph (22 km/h) and on this track, the centre of Dorian is expected to pass over or near Barbados late Monday.

Winds between 50 to 60 mph (80 to 97km/h) with higher gusts are expected to spread across Barbados tomorrow afternoon and into Tuesday morning.

Pockets of moderate to heavy showers, periods of rain and scattered thunderstorms are also to be expected. Rainfall accumulations of at least two to four inches (50 to 100 mm) are possible with isolated higher amounts.

Some flash-flooding is likely in low-lying areas and residents are urged to be on the alert and take all necessary precautions.

Easterly to south-easterly swells of 2.5 to 3.5 metres (eight to 12 feet) are also forecast to accompany the system. These will create unsafe conditions for small-craft operators and fishermen. Sea-bathers and other users of the sea are advised to stay out of the water.

A high-surf advisory and small-craft warning will be in effect from 12 p.m. tomorrow until 6 a.m. on Tuesday.

A tropical storm warning remains in effect for Barbados, St Lucia, and St Vincent and the Grenadines, while a tropical storm watch is in effect for Martinique, and Grenada and its dependencies. (PR)
