THE BARBADOS WORKERS’ Union is hoping staff at the Barbados Water Authority (BWA) will have their money by the end of April.
Speaking to the media after meeting with workers this morning general secretary, Toni Moore, said the disbursements have to go through a number of channels including Parliament, which is on recess until April 19.
While not giving the specific sum of money to be disbursed, Moore said the union received some calculations over the Easter Weekend, which are still to be reviewed. Minister of Labour Senator Dr Esther Byer Suckoo is also to indicate to the union the proposed timeframes for disbursements and how the payments will be made, Moore said.
A nine-day strike by the BWA workers ended last Thursday after Byer Suckoo and her team, Minister of Water Resource Management Dr David Estwick and the union came to an agreement during a meeting.
Staff at the Bridgetown Port and the Grantley Adams International Airport had also withdrawn their service from early Thursday in solidarity with the workers at the BWA. (YB)
