FOR THE FOURTH TIME in less than a month, health and safety issues at the Berinda Cox Fish Market, in Oistins, Christ Church, have surfaced.

This time the safety of the jetty used by fisherfolk is being questioned.

When a SUNDAY SUN team visited the fish market last week, a Danger: Jetty Closed sign at the entrance to the jetty was seen hanging on the gate. However, despite that caution, some people were still using the facility.

Jacqueline Wilkinson, manager of the market, said it was a major concern for her and each day she prayed would not be the last for the jetty, especially on her watch.

“The columns under the jetty are beginning to crumble. The slabs also are in dire need of repair, and although over the years some of them have been replaced, the whole jetty needs to be rebuilt,” she said.
