Windies Women start with win

WEST INDIES WOMEN started the ICC World T20 Cricket Tournament with a four-run win over Pakistan Women at Chennai today,

With Pakistan needing 12 runs off the final over, Deandra Dottin took a wicket and conceded only seven runs, limiting them to 99 for five in reply to the West Indies’ 103 for eight.

Opener Javeria Khan retired hurt in the first over after she was hit by a ball, but Pakistan were coasting along at 35 without loss until spinner Anisa Mohammed struck.

She removed Sidra Ameen (20) and two overs later, claimed Aliya Riaz (2) and Bismah Maroof (22) in the space of four balls to end with figures of three for 25.

Earlier, captain Stafanie King scored 40 and Hayley Matthews and Merissa Aguilleira scored 15 each in an ordinary batting display.
