IT SEEMS LIKE controversial school teacher Charles Morris may have barked up the wrong tree where “freedom of speech” is concerned yet again.

The Anglican priest and head of the History Department at Combermere School has found himself at the centre of a misconduct charge after stating publicly his senior and principal Vere Parris needed to step down.

This came in the wake of environmental issues at the Waterford, St Michael, school resulting in its early closure on several occasions and twice in the last three weeks.

A letter which was circulating in the media addressed to Morris from Acting Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Education June Chandler stated he had committed “misconduct of a serious nature”.

When contacted, President of the Barbados Secondary Teachers Union (BSTU) Mary Redman said they will be “handling” the matter. Morris is also third vice president in the BSTU.

Allegations regarding the Morris also surfaced in 2014 during a Barbados Labour Party meeting where he was charged for gross misconduct. At the time, he reportedly said the Freundel Stuart Administration was the worst government the country had ever seen. (MR)
