KOLKATA – Captain Darren Sammy led from the front with a brilliant half century as West Indies beat Australia by three wickets in their second official warm-up match at Eden Gardens on Sunday.

The 31-year-old scored 50 not out off 28 balls with six fours and a tremendous straight six. He led the rescue effort after Windies were rocked by Josh Hazlewood’s hat-trick in the fourth over.

Sammy’s heroics brought the score from 49 for five in the ninth over to win with one ball to spare in front a crowd of over 20 000. logo-icc-world-t20

In the first half of the match Dwayne Bravo produced an excellent spell of four for 41 off four overs to restrict the Australian run-scoring.

Shanw Watson scored 60 and Steve Smith 36.

Bravo was well backed up by left-arm spinner Sulieman Benn, with three wickets, and seamer Carlos Brathwaite with two.
