DISAPPOINTED!

That’s the feeling of sitting Member of Parliament for St Thomas, Cynthia Forde, when it comes to the upkeep of the graves and tombstones of the nation’s pioneers.

Speaking at a wreath laying ceremony held in honour of former Prime Minster Tom Adams at St Michael’s Cathedral earlier, she made this point.

“I am disappointed because I don’t think that enough is being done to let visitors and locals alike visit and be aware of our former leaders’ graves. I hope David Thompson’s grave in St John does not come to this, where it relied on a group of individuals coming together to maintain the tombstone.

“Granite deteriorates over time due to the weather. Two years ago we came here and we could not decipher which tomb belonged to Tom Adams or Sir Grantley and his wife because there was nothing we could read on the tombstone,” she said.  (RA)
