CARIFTA GAMES qualifier Anderson Greaves jumped his way to the top field athlete award at this year’s Joseph Payne Memorial Classic.

Greaves beat fellow CARIFTA Games qualifiers Triston Gibbons and Seth Edwards as well as high jumper Yuriko Harewood to win the coveted shield, the highlight of Thursday night’s presentation ceremony at McEnearney’s (MQI) Headquarters in Wildey.

“I felt very special to know that I won this award. I had a good feeling about the 7.09 (metres). I thank my coach and everyone that worked with me in the past and present and I hope that I will strive for greater in the future,” he said.

Gibbons’ record-breaking leap was voted as the best performance of the Classic, surpassing the Under-18 Boys’ shot put record of 15.63 metres set by Triston Gibbons; Edwards’ record 45.95 metres to win the Under-18 Boys’ discus and Harewood’s leap of 1.61 metres in the Under-18 Girls’ High Jump.
