268 suspected cases of Zika

THE NUMBER OF suspected cases of the Zika virus in Barbados now stands at 268 while the number of confirmed cases remains at seven.

Senior medical officer for environmental health, Dr Arthur Phillips, gave the update at a Press briefing at the Ministry of Health this afternoon.

Phillips said the level of reports has remained consistent, and that there were no pregnant women in that number as far as he was aware.

While he could not say if any situation currently exists, Phillips said all pregnant women who present with symptoms outside of the five-day gestation period will be assumed positive for Zika and referred to the high risk unit at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital for close monitoring. (YB)
