DEAR CHRISTINE: Should I tell boss her husband is cheating?

Dear Christine,

ON SHORT NOTICE, I decided to use up my remaining vacation time and visit my sister overseas. Since she was working and I had visited her several times before, I was comfortable exploring the city on my own.

One day, the weather took a turn for the worse so I took a shortcut through what’s called the gay village to get back to her apartment faster. I stopped in a tucked-away, hole-in-the wall type establishment to use the bathroom and to dry off a bit.

As I was leaving, I heard a very familiar voice. When I looked from the side, I swore it was my boss’ husband canoodling with another man. Since I was doubtful, I took another look. Sure enough, it was him. I made a quick, inconspicuous exit and was in utter disbelief for the rest of the night.

My sister has the “Vegas” mentality which is: What happens in “Vegas” stays in “Vegas”. Quite frankly, that was my initial thought – “not my business, not my problem, let ‘wifey’ find out in her own way and time”.

On the other hand, my girlfriends and I have always said we would want to know if our man was cheating. Why give him the luxury of disrespecting me and our relationship while possibly exposing me to an infection he picks up from another partner?

Recently I’ve been wondering if I should somehow anonymously tell my boss (an utter hell-raiser who isn’t fond of me) about her husband. I heard through the office grapevine she’s pregnant.

Not Sure

Dear Not Sure,

You may think you’d be doing something good for “wifey”, but just think for a minute. This woman is pregnant. Have you considered how dropping a bombshell like that could affect her mental and physical health and, by extension, her unborn child?

Would now be the right time to disclose such information? Do you know for sure that the husband and this man have an ongoing “affair” or was he “experimenting” as many people appear to do these days?

Honestly, I am a little doubtful about this whole scenario (although all things are possible). What are the odds of anyone travelling abroad, going down a “hole-in-the-wall type establishment” in a gay village and using a bathroom only to discover the boss’ husband with another man? Were you in the ladies room or the gents? It’s just not adding up with me.

Whatever you do or whatever you are up to, please allow this woman to have a stress-free birth. If she’s to discover anything about her husband, then she’ll find out without you or your friends meddling in her affairs.

Sometimes the best way to help people is to be silent.

– CHRISTINE
