The police are reporting the successful execution of the plan for the Republic Bank Grand Kadooment.

Senior superintendent with responsibility for Bridgetown, Antonio Forte, who was stationed at the mobile command centre at Exmouth Gap, just off The Mighty Grynner Highway, said there were no major incidents on the road.

Forte said it was a multi-pronged approach to the day, covering operations on the ground, traffic management and VIP detail, and the officers were out from 7 a.m.

They also drew on resources from the Barbados Defence Force, the Barbados Fire Service, National Cultural Foundation (NCF), Department of Emergency Management, the Barbados Citizens Band Radio Association and medical support.

A medical representative said it was also a quiet day on their end.

Forte said they were also providing security at Re-Whine, the last lap party at Kensington Oval, but the numbers there were small.

Public relations officer, acting inspector Rodney Inniss, said one woman suffered a fractured leg, someone got into difficulty in the Hot Pot and there were reports of bruising in the band. All of them were dealt with, he said, and thanked the thousands of spectators who lined the streets and displayed “exceptional” behaviour.

Meanwhile, NCF chief executive officer Carol Roberts-Reifer was pleased with how the day went.

Roberts-Reifer, who jumped with the Blue Box Cart Band, said about 20 bands crossed the stage at Codrington Road and everything went smoothly, despite the late start at Warrens which was attributed to the rain and the tardiness of some revellers.

She said the announcement for Vision 2020 as well as the Tune of the Crop winner would be made during Re-Whine. (Nation News)
