STEVE IFILL has made his name in construction, but when the sector began to shrink a few years ago, he found small-scale animal farming to be a stress reliever.
In the late 1990s, the owner of Steve’s Building Works began to keep a few sheep and pigs. Little did he know then that they would come in handy some years later in helping to relieve the tension caused by hard times in the building trade.
What was even more satisfying for him was that the farming moved from just subsistence to actually helping to ease his financial strain.
Ifill, whose construction company celebrated 25 years in December, is still hoping for a resurgence in the industry, though he doesn’t see any real signs that this will happen.
