IT HAS TRANSITIONED from beach nuisance to beauty product.
And few would believe that the pleasant-smelling cosmetics are related in any way to the putrid Sargassum seaweed that clogged up beaches last year, causing many Barbadians to view it as a nuisance and a health hazard.
Tiffany Husbands developed the products from the algae last year in her final semester at the University of the West Indies Cave Hill.
Under the guidance of Dr Srinivasa Rao Popuri, lecturer in analytical chemistry in the Department of Biological and Chemical Sciences, and with the support of fellow students Mikhail Eversley and Kemar Codrington, Husbands developed a lavender lotion and a lipstick balm last November.
