GLASSES WERE RAISED while loving words flowed for new centenarian Edna Lynch at Sunbury Plantation yesterday.

Family and friends assembled at the St Philip venue to celebrate Edna’s long life.

She fittingly chose a red and white outfit for the occasion that was capped with a special pink and silver tiara and sash proclaiming her the birthday girl.

The former plantation worker, who turned 100 on Friday, was employed at the Norwoods, Bennetts and Bagatelle plantations in St Thomas.

Well-wishers spoke highly of Edna’s values of hard work, respect and discipline in their tributes.

Great granddaughter Angelic Lynch said Edna, who is an avid reader of the Nation newspaper and the Bible, was an inspiration.

Barbados Labour Party Member of Parliament Kerrie Symmonds said the elderly woman was responsible for passing on a number of values to those with whom she came into contact.

“Her life has been a testimony to some of the things that we are losing in this country and that we have to fight to hold onto. The respect for hard work is an example of that,” he said.

An alert Edna attributed her milestone to God and marked among her achievements that of raising her children to be respectful.
