THREE KIDS didn’t waste their time booking flights to Grenada.

One major meet into the season and Barbados already have a trio of qualifiers for this year’s CARIFTA Games, as gifted middle distance runner Jonathan Jones, and throwers Seth Edwards and Triston Gibbons met their event standards at Saturday’s January Classic.

Running with a smooth and easy style at the National Stadium, the 17-year-old Jones comfortably qualified for the Under-18 boys’ 800 metres by winning the event in one minute, 52.20 seconds. Edwards and Gibbons both passed the 45-metres standard in the Under-18 discus.

“It wasn’t really the plan,” said Jones of specifically using the meet to qualify for CARIFTA.
