THE NUMBER OF YOUNG Barbadians interested in piloting is still soaring.

At the Barbados Light Aeroplane Club’s open day Saturday at Paragon, Christ Church, Chairman of the local Flying Committee Geoffrey Griffith attributed it to various factors.

He said youngsters may be more involved because of the large amount of people travelling in recent years and the availability of flight simulators in this era.

“Over the last year was overwhelming and we were actually about to close a class from the numbers of the applicants because it would’ve been too large,” he said.

The retired LIAT pilot told NATION Online that currently the club has a group of 22 young student pilots.

He added the excess students were grouped into a separate class.

“That meant that we were able to operate two classes because they were so many students wanting to come into the class,” he said.

Special tribute was also paid to National Hero Errol Barrow who was a Royal Air Force pilot in World War II. (MR)
