THERE IS a pressing need for social workers in primary schools.
Commenting on the apparent growing number of missing teens across Barbados, vice-president of the Barbados Association of Guidance Counsellors (BAGC), Saul Leacock, said social workers at that level were needed to help detect challenges faced by young children.
“It is because of an uncomfortable home environment, it is one in which they feel pressured or threatened or they may want to send a strong message to the parent that they need more care and attention,” he said.
Leacock referred specifically to the disappearance of Raheem Hinds, who was reported missing on January 8 but returned home one day later.
