BARBADOS’ NEWEST HIGH Court Judge Pamela Beckles has promised to be “firm and fair and to treat everybody equally” as she moves from the Magistrates Court to the Supreme Court.
Speaking after she was sworn into the new office by Governor General Sir Elliott Belgrave at Government House this morning, Beckles said she intended to continue in the same vein as she did at the Magistrates Court and to work “just as hard” as she did in the lower court.
A graduate of the University of the West Indies, Beckles has been a Crown Counsel and a Deputy Registrar of the Supreme Court among other positions. She was Chief Magistrate until her latest appointment.
Several members of Beckles’ family and family friend Astor B. Watts were at Government House to witness the brief ceremony. (GC)
