The National Conservation Commission (NCC) will have at least 70 lifeguards at its disposal over the next eight weeks, with a plan to send additional staff at the three most used and most dangerous locations, Browne’s Beach on Bay Street, St Michael, and Dover Beach and Accra Beach in Christ Church.
It means those popular beaches could each have access to at least six lifeguards daily during the summer vacation. In addition, the NCC has sourced sirens and a public address system to be used in emergency situations at Dover and Accra.
General manager of the NCC, Keith Neblett, said they would be taking no chances.
“We still have some very dangerous currents at Accra and Dover, so we will have our lifeguards doing even more walking patrols on those beaches,” he told THE NATION in an exclusive interview yesterday. (BA)
