EFFORTS ARE ON to avert industrial action at the American University of Barbados (AUB) where ten employees lost their jobs in three months.
And a fight for recognition by the Barbados Workers’ Union (BWU) for AUB workers who joined it is also on.
SUNDAY SUN investigations have revealed that between September and November this year, three security workers, two maintenance employees, two office staffers and three lecturers, were separated from the Landsdown, Silver Sands, Christ Church institution – the island’s first offshore medical school.
Most are claiming they were unfairly dismissed and have not been compensated as required by law.
The former employees are claiming they received no warnings by means of letters or discussion before being terminated, and in some cases no letter of termination, and no valid reasons given for their termination.
