BARBADOS INVESTMENT and Development Corporation (BIDC) officials are confident that the goals set out for its recently launched Going Global initiative will be met.
During the Barbados Uh Come From marketplace, which the organisation hosted yesterday in collaboration with the Barbados Manufacturers’ Association (BMA), BIDC chief executive officer Sonja Trotman said by the end of 2016, Barbados’ export earnings could be successfully increased by ten per cent or about $55 million.
“We did it mathematically based on our record of exports and the growth path that we have projected. [It is] also based on the fact that we intend to intensify our effort to get Barbadian products into the global market,” she said, noting that they were heading to Guyana, St Lucia and Grenada on a trade mission in January.
The CEO said the Barbados Uh Come From event, which coincided with the official start of the winter tourist season, was the forerunner of the Going Global initiative, aimed at promoting local goods and services.
