‘Let court decide on hair’

LET THE COURT decide! That’s the advice an attorney is giving female cops if they are brought up on indiscipline charges for wearing locks or another hairstyle deemed unsuitable under the Royal Barbados Police Force’s revised general appearance policy.

She suggested that as long as the hairstyle is neat and tidy and fit under the headgear as required, it does not lower the image of the officer or the RBPF.

“The court has a role to play in making a ruling on this important issue and it will be interesting to see what the outcome would be if any of those affected were to pursue the matter legally,” said Liz Thompson, a former Cabinet minister, who in 1986 successfully defended hotel worker Ingrid Quarless, who was fired for wearing braids.
