PRIME MINISTER of St Kitts and Nevis, Dr Timothy Harris has congratulated Barbados on the attainment of its 49th anniversary of Independence.

He did so in a letter to Prime Minister Freundel Stuart.

“The struggles of your early settlers and ancestors have resulted in a nation founded upon sound values, and rooted in democracy, the rule of law, good governance and equality for all.  These are principles which have long united us as Caribbean people, and strengths which have attributed to a stable and peaceful zone and our people as resilient and resourceful.”

Referring to Barbados as a young nation, Prime Minister Harris said that “Barbados has a commendable legacy of achievements and successes, for which you have won the respect and admiration of countries worldwide.”

“As a fellow Eastern Caribbean and CARICOM member, we have accomplished much together and as we continue to move toward regional integration and Caribbean unity, I am confident that Barbados will lead the way in helping us to achieve our objectives,” he wrote.

Harris said: “Together, we continue to confront our common challenges which we are assured can become opportunities for the social and economic development of our people.  We adopt the attitude and confidence your National Anthem so aptly proclaims, “We have no doubts or fears, upward and onward we shall go, inspired, exulting, free, and greater will our nation [and region] grow, in strength and unity”.

“I also avail myself of this opportunity to wish you continued good health and prosperity and peace for your people and country,” Prime Minister Harris added. (SKNIS)
