WHOEVER said that Julian “Michael Jackson” White was a spent force in road tennis should have been at the Netball Stadium when the Massy United Insurance Clash of the Titans championship entered the quarter-finals on Tuesday night.
Using the guile of a true master and the inordinate skills developed in winning over 40 national titles, White totally outplayed young contender Darius “Baracus” Gaskin 21-16, 21-10. It was only at a score of 7-6 that Gaskin gave the modest crowd hope of any probable upset.
From early in the match, White stamped his dominance by exploiting Gaskin’s eagerness to back into the left corner to wait for a forehand smash. Repeatedly, White pushed Gaskin further and further left to then smoke the ball through the unprotected right side. (KB)
