DR MARIA AGARD has been expelled from the Barbados Labour Party.
The National Council of the party took the drastic decision last night after they convened for close to two hours before Agard and her two counsel Hal Gollop, QC, and Lynette Eastmond walked out of the disciplinary hearing to which she was summoned to answer nine charges.
A large crowd of party members and supporters crammed into the conference room after waiting anxiously outside Grantley Adams House, the BLP’s Roebuck Street headquarters for over three hours and listened intently as Opposition Leader Mia Mottley, surrounded by members of the council, read from a prepared statement.
She stated: “The National Council of the BLP, after hearing the charges presented and the statements from Dr Maria Agard and her attorney-at-law have determined that she should be expelled from the party as provided by the consitution.”
