A Surinamese man will be spending some time at Her Majesty’s Prison at Dodds after he was unable to pay his fine following his arrest over the weekend.
Bryan Desire Pollack 42 years of Slora Willy Cario #29, Paramaribo, Suriname appeared at the District ‘C’ Court before Chief Magistrate Christopher Birch where he pleaded guilty to charges of possession of cocaine, trafficking cocaine, possession with intent to supply cocaine, and importation of cocaine.
On the charge of possession of cocaine he was convicted reprimanded and discharged. On the charge of trafficking cocaine he was fined $5 000 forthwith or 18 months in prison. On the charge of possession with intent to supply cocaine he was reprimanded and discharged. On the offence of importation of cocaine he was fined $10 000 forthwith or 18 months in prison.
The fines were not paid and he was handed over to prison officers. The weight of the suspected cocaine is 364 grammes with an estimated street value of $18 200.
On Saturday the 29 of June 2019, Pollack arrived at the Grantley Adams International Airport on a flight from Trinidad and Tobago. He cleared Immigration but was intercepted by the police who had reason to interview him.
As a result of this interview, he was taken to Customs where a search of his luggage was conducted. This search revealed six packages of a white substance wrapped in transparent plastic, concealed in the handle of a suitcase belonging to Pollack. As a result of this discovery he was arrested and taken into the custody of the police and subsequently charged for the mentioned offences. (PR/KOB)
