Speightstown slam way to dom title

YET ANOTHER domino title is in the northern trophy cabinet of Speightstown.

Already with the Premier League trophy safely locked away, the Roger Yearwood-led Speightstown slammers prevailed over KC Joint 1, 125-118, to emerge champions when the curtain came down on the 125 Points Islandwide Village Tournament on Thursday night at the Cavaliers’ Bar in The Ivy.

The game started with KC Joint 1 taking an early ten-point lead, but with steady play from Rudolph Walkes and Wendell Scantlebury, Speightstown tied the score and eventually went to break leading 67-62.

After the resumption, there was no easing up as Speightstown continued to pile on the points, with Desiree Smith and Richard Straughan having one of their better nights of the tournament.

Despite the loud cheering from the KC Joint 1 supporters and a time-out at 85-103, it was all in vain as Speightstown went on to win by seven points.

In the third-place play-off, Christ Church skinned Wildcats 125-103, with an all-round display from their slammers after the Wildcats had come within four points at 62-66.

Christ Church were beaten in last Sunday’s semi-finals, 125-117 by Speightstown, while the Wildcats lost by a similar scoreline to KC Joint 1.

The President’s Pairs will start tomorrow at the Roy Byer Village Gates, Stadium Road, St Michael.
