A HANDFUL OF farmers in St Philip and Christ Church benefited from a Knowledge Exchange Session organised by the Ministry of Agriculture today.
Extension officer with the Ministry of Agriculture Barney Callender expressed dissatisfaction with number of farmers in attendance noting that there were between 400 to 500 farmers from each parish registered with the Ministry of Agriculture.
Callender, who led one of the sessions, said farmers needed to take advantage of the meetings, since it presented an opportunity for them to make their businesses better.
“The Ministry is making a big effort to assist you all in farming and these sessions are planned for you, they are not for the media. . . . They are not for anyone else, they are for the famers,” he said to the three farmers who turned up for the event which got underway almost an hour after its scheduled 9 a.m. start. A few turned up later.
The topics discussed were Dealing with Drought Conditions, Storage and Disposal of Pesticides and Globally Harmonised System of Symbols and their Meanings. (LK)
